Andy Davis XC Coaching & Task Week

Nympsfield, 22nd – 30th May 2010

To kick off the cross country season Andy will be organising a cross country coaching and task week at Nympsfield from Saturday 22nd until Sunday 30th May with assistance from a number of BGGC’s experienced cross country pilots. This is the week leading up to the late May bank holiday weekend and traditionally UK Nationals were held during this week, often with some very good soaring weather. Furthermore, with crops short there will be plenty of field landing options.

The week will take the form of a daily met and task briefing at which a selection of tasks will be set daily according to the weather, pilot needs and experience levels. There will be no formal scoring of flights, but there will be a debrief session after flying each day to discuss the day’s flying and main learning points. Friendly rivalry will be encouraged!

One of the key features of the week will be cross country coaching, including wet weather programme. The DG505 is already booked for the week so that participants can leave their single seater on the ground for the day and experience a 2 seat coaching flight with one of the club’s experienced cross country pilots. I hope to persuade some of the club’s experts to volunteer their time and use of private 2 seaters so that as many participants as possible can enjoy at least one coaching flight in a 2 seater.

Participants should hold at least Silver C although participants with Bronze C and Cross Country endorsement will be accepted with CFI approval. To avoid the need for crews, all participants should be willing to help others with retrieves.

There will be a limit of 20 participants on a first come first served basis. Places will initially be reserved exclusively for BBGC members, but after Easter any vacant places will be made available to members of other clubs. There will be no entry fee for BGGC members, but a small daily donation will be requested to provide token daily prizes for most meritorious flight, worst retrieve etc.

Members flying club gliders will be charged at normal club rates including booking fee and launching will be charged at normal club rates unless cost of hiring in extra launching capability exceeds club rate in which case those launches will be charged at cost.

Please book your place directly with Andy by email at PamiNAndy@compuserve.com or call 01453 860945, giving your name, expected glider type and experience level.

Also please indicate if you would like to take advantage of 2 seater coaching. Alternatively complete the form below and return to the BGGC office. I should also like to hear from any volunteers willing to assist with coaching and running the days on which I will have to go to work.
