Rotas
Rotas and Operational Notes
The BGGC operates a combined rota system for "duty teams". On every weekend day and most
bank holidays we have a crew comprising Instructors, Basic
(trial
lesson) instructors, Cross-country mentor, Tug Pilot, Winch
Driver and Launch point organiser which runs to a rota system.
In addition we operate a "grid" system primarily aimed at those wanting to fly XC (and who arrive before 08:30).
The rota system also includes all active members in one way or another,
all non duty members (those that are not instructors, tug or
winch drivers or XC coaches) have been allocated to a team - look
at the "teams" page on the downloadable spreadsheet below.
What this means is that members attached to the team are on the
rota for the instructor in charge to call upon to perform launch point
marshalling duties and similar activities. It is the instructor's
responsibility to organise this for their team. In addition we
encourage all members to get their annual check flights done by
instructors on their team - although this is not mandatory. It is
absolutely not the case for
any member that they are only to fly on the day their team is on the
rota - the rota is only for marshalling & check flight reasons
and to help new members to have a group of people they can get to
know better.
New members are included in the rota each time (in blue text) & are
encouraged to join in on their team's rota days although of course they
are not restricted to one teams day by any means. Instructing or
experienced team members are encouraged to mentor new members on their
team. On joining the club new members may either select a team, or if
there is no preference they will be allocated to a team by the office
when they join.
In principle teams are designed to be largely stable, though from time
to time it will be necessary to readjust teams to keep their make-up in
balance - this applies mostly to specific roles (instructing, tuggy etc) but also to the general membership.
DutyMan
From Winter 2009 the rota system is held on DutyMan all team members should use this system to arrange any Swaps and check on their own rota commitments.
