Competitions
 Introduction
If you are new to the idea of flying without an engine it may
come as surprise to discover that they are commonly raced over
cross-country tasks which can be over 300 miles . For a full
explanation of gliding competitions (from the Lasham Gliding
Society) click on the here.
Every year the BGGC runs a competition at Nympsfield, either
the
Western Regional or one of the National class competitions.
For the latest competition news see here.
National Club
Ladder and BGA Competitions
The Ladder is an informal, year-long competition designed
primarily to
encourage cross-country soaring amongst glider pilots based in the UK.
There are in fact three National Ladders. The Open Ladder to which any
flight may qualify, the Weekend Ladder, where the flight must have
taken place at the weekend and the Junior Ladder where the pilot must
qualify as a junior (under 25). The National Ladder and all
participating club ladders can be viewed at the National Ladder Web Site
You can find a full listing of British
Gliding Association rated
Regional and National rated competitions by following the BGA
Competitions
link. The Competition Handbook is also available for
download in the link
above.
